Downtown Canton
<*dv_0*>Established in 1805 by Baltimore native Bezaleel Wells, Cantons original square plat is now the citys central business district. Cantons boom period began in 1852 when the Pennsylvania and Ohio Railroad located an extension through town, later bringing the Aultman Company the largest reaper and mower concern in the world. Canton later became home to the worlds largest watch factory and the worlds largest manufacturer of paving brick. Cantons most famous citizen, President William McKinley, is commemorated at the McKinley National Memorial. The home of William and Ida McKinley is now the First Ladies National Historic Site. Canton is also home to the National Football Hall of Fame and the Canton Classic Car Museum.
